Mirzapur (Town) consists of 9 wards and 16 mahallas. The area of the town is 13.81 sq km. The town has a population of 24219; male 48.81%, female 51.19%; density of population is 1704 per sq km.
Administration The upazila consists of 1 municipality, 13 union parishads, 207 mouzas and 219 villages.
Archaeological heritage A three-dome mosque at Pakulla (built in the eighteenth century).
Historical events The first military resistance against the Pakistan army was made at village Goran-Satiachara on 3 April 1971. In the battle many people including some EPR forces were killed and so were many Pakistan soldiers.
Marks of War of Liberation A mass grave at Goran-Satiachara and a mass killing site at Pakulla.

Kumudini Hospital: Komudini Hospital established by Roy Bahadur RANADAPRASAD SAHA in 1938 at MIRZAPUR (Tangail) on the bank of the river Louhajang, is a charitable institution providing health services to the poor and rural population. The hospital was inaugurated on 27 July 1944 by the governor of Bengal Lord RG Casey. At the beginning, the number of beds in the hospital was only 20, which has now risen to 750, making it one of the largest private hospitals in the country.

At present, the hospital serves more than 400 patients a day. In addition to taking care of general patients, it provides family planning services and regular check up services for the pregnant women. It also has facilities for childbirth and maternal and child healthcare, a gynecology unit and special units for treatment of diarrhea and tuberculosis

The introduction of the 50-bed TB unit at the hospital in 1970 was a significant event because at that time, little was known in the country about the treatment of this killing disease, the only other TB hospital of the country was at Dhaka.A medical college named Kumudini Medical College was established in 2000.

Bharateswari Home: Bharateswari Homes a residential educational institution for female students. It was established in 1945 at MIRZAPUR Sadar, 65 km northwest of DHAKA and 30 km southeast of TANGAIL district headquarters. Philanthropist RANADAPRASAD SAHA established the institution for women's education and named it after his grandmother Bharateswari Devi.

Ranada Prasad realised the importance of education as a base for development and he considered that no society could prosper if the women members of it were left behind and deprived of education.

Bharateswari Homes is the first residential girls' school in the region. It was reintroduced in 1983. In 2001, the homes had about 1000 students and 50 teachers. Every year Bharateswari Homes party is invited by government to perform at National Days celebrations and important national festivals in Dhaka.
The school provides education and training in computer literacy and also runs an English Language Club, a Science Club, a Debating Club and a unit of the BISWA SAHITYA KENDRA. In 1997, Bharateswari Homes had formed Girls-in-Scout, which is the largest children's organization of the country.
